journey through a black hole (2022)

Created for Laboratoire de musique contemporaine de Montréal mini solo composition challenge

I take you on a journey through a black hole. What does it sound like? Where will we emerge? Why are there birds?

The mini composition challenge was to create a 1 minute or less solo multimedia composition on the prompt “take us through a black hole”

I used field sound, found objects like a water bottle, electronics (both live during recording and manipulated afterwards), and flute improvisation around my synesthesia tone row for “black hole.” The video combines audio-reactive visuals with animations programmed in Max/MSP, bookended by a journey of falling into the hole on a hag stone, and coming out of the other side - transported to a completely different location.
